About the Summit

It is fair to say, China’s urban rail transit industry is still in its very primary stage, though China is witnessing a boom in transportation construction. Most China cities with rail transit are lack of technical capacity and practical experience for the transportation projects and operation. City-Rail aims to address all these issues. Now in its 4th year, City-Rail has firmly built its name as the industry’s must-attend event in China, bring together CEOs, COOs and key senior level directors of the world’s major metro operators and Chinese authorities, at a time when safe and environmental issues are more critical than ever. City-Rail 2010 will be the best attended to date, with the full support and backing of the Government and widespread media attention. Approximately 200 key stakeholders from the metro industry will get together in the Expo city, shanghai, China.

Industry Focus

With the rapid development of Chinese urbanization and thereby significant increase in the urban passenger capacity, the pure common public transit cannot satisfy the soaring demands in Chinese cities, especially in large cities. In response, Chinese central government has positively issued relevant policies to give priority to the development of urban public transit. An estimated 1 trillion Yuan of investment is to be poured into rail transit industry by the year, 2016. Chinese local governments also release capitals and supporting policies for the allocation and upgrading of rail transit, comprehensive interchange hubs, station construction, vehicle and facilities. On the basis of reviewing China’s urban rail transit industry development, the rail transit distance hit 962 km by the end of 2009; it is expected, by the year 2020, China urban rail transit lines will reach 177; the total mileage of operation will reach up to 6,100 km. Generally speaking, China is witnessing a boom in urban rail transit construction as many cities struggle to tackle traffic congestion in wake of fast growth in private car ownership. There are 33 cities are preparing the construction of rail transit; up till now, 28 cities have gained the approval from the State Council. China has obviously become the world’s largest urban rail transit market.
