Metro Projects in China


It is reported that a new wave of subway construction is taking place across China with 89 urban rail transit lines covering 2,500 kilometers to be built and almost RMB 1 trillion to be invested by 2016. Over 10 cities in Shanghai, including Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou are currently running a total of 835.5 kilometers of urban rail transit lines. Recently the State Council has approved new rail transit projects in 22 cities across the country, which include many second-tier and third-tier cities such as Xi'an, Harbin and Nanchang. By 2012, Beijing rail transit network will cover the whole center city, with an operating mileage of 440 kilometers; Shanghai Rail Transit Line 13 will be established with more than 300 stations and 500 km operating mileages.
